Justice Liu will present his recent study on the rise of Asian Americans in the law, their distribution across practice settings, and the challenges they face in advancing to the top ranks of the profession including topics such as: Why has there been a 39% decline in first year enrollment among Asian Americans since 2009 (largest of any group)? Are implicit bias, stereotyped perceptions, and lack of mentors obstacles to promotion & advancement? Why do Asian Americans comprise only 6.5% of federal judicial law clerks despite comprising 10.5% of graduates of top-30 law schools?
